Coral

Coral has been cherished in jewelry for over 25,000 years. In Greek mythology, red coral was believed to be the petrified blood of Medusa, spreading into the sea after her death at the hands of Perseus. In Ancient Rome, it was used as a protective talisman against the evil eye, especially for children, and continues to be worn today as a symbol of luck.

All of our coral is repurposed from vintage jewelry, giving it new life and meaning.

Coral has a hardness of 3 to 4 on the Mohs scale, making it relatively soft and prone to scratching. This softness requires careful handling, especially when used in jewelry, to maintain its beauty over time.

Mother of pearl

Nacre

Nacre, often known as mother-of-pearl, is the iridescent inner layer found in the shells of certain mollusks, including oysters and abalones. This naturally occurring material is composed of microscopic layers of aragonite and conchiolin, which give it a unique, shimmering sheen. Nacre has been valued for centuries for its soft, lustrous glow, making it a popular choice in jewelry, buttons, and decorative objects. Its delicate play of light, often featuring shades of white, cream, pink, and blue, makes each piece of nacre truly one of a kind.

Nacre has a hardness of around 2.5 to 4.5 on the Mohs scale, making it relatively soft and susceptible to scratching.
